Lawyers? Group Enters the Professional Indemnity Debate

An organisation that pledges to support the interests of High Street lawyers is in discussions with a major insurance broker in a bid to solve the predicament of high professional indemnity premiums.

The Nationwide Solicitors Alliance is vowing to help law firms prepare for next year’s renewals now and has consulted with PI specialists at London brokers Prime Professions.

The industry has been rocked in recent weeks as the rate of PI premiums has more than doubled for some practices, leaving some faced with closure and many more facing further financial woes in an already difficult market place.

In response, NSA is working with Prime Professions and major PI insurers to develop and implement a risk management programme for their members, improving their insurance profile and allowing them to benefit from group negotiations.

Steve Battarbee, NSA director, says: “Smaller firms face a tough time this year as a result of huge hikes in PI premiums, even for firms with good claims records, costs have been difficult to absorb.

“It seems that no real account is being taken of a firm’s performance and as renewals take place in such a short time scale, there is no time for genuine negotiation. There is little opportunity for firms to demonstrate they have effective risk management in place and they should not be profiled as high risk just because they are small.”

Fellow director, Tracy Thompson, says: “By involving insurers and specialists in risk management, we intend to develop our own quality mark that will be recognised by the insurance industry and by doing so our membership, we will hopefully secure better terms.”

There is no point waiting until September to do thisfirms need to start working on next year’s renewal today.”

Yaz Side Effects: The Risks and Possible Compensation

Yaz is different. We are told that by the makers of this popular oral contraceptive. The reason Yaz is so different is that it combines the two hormones estrogen and progestin. Estrogen is the primary component of almost all oral contraceptives currently on the market. Its the progestin component of Yaz that has a potassium sparing diuretic effect in a number of patients and leads to Yaz side effects. Elevated potassium levels can lead to the more serious side effects.

Although Yaz went through clinical trials and received FDA approval in the US, the aggressive marketing of the drug for its effect of reducing the incidence of PMDD and acne led to its popularity and exposure to a much larger sample than in the clinical trials and subsequently far more sufferers from the Yaz side effects. The more extreme side effects include but are not limited to deep vein thrombosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, kidney failure, and gall bladder disease. Among the minor and far more common side effects are headaches, increased appetite and weight gain, and reduced sex drive.

Yaz side effects are so commonplace that there is legal recourse available for the large amounts of patients that have suffered from them. Steps that should be taken if you feel that you are eligible for compensation are to first speak with your physician to confirm that Yaz is indeed the cause of your symptoms, then you should seek legal advice. It’s important that you save the packaging and any remaining product as well as any patient inserts that came with the packaging.

Symptoms or injury should have occurred while taking Yaz or within a few weeks after you stop using the product. If your injury is gall bladder removal then you may be eligible for compensation months after ceasing use of the product. Yaz side effects should not be taken lightly even if they are as minor as headaches, which could later become migraines.  Legal recourse could be an individual lawsuit against the maker of the drug or against the doctor prescribing its use; or you may be entitled to compensation through a class action lawsuit against Bayer Pharmaceuticals. In any case you can further research your options through a Legal Advocate or through search engine results for either “Yaz side effects” or “Yaz lawsuit”.

Who Needs A Family Solicitor

Numerous people will need the services of the family law court system at some stage in their lives. Many could never anticipate that they would discover themselves in the court room having employed the services of a family solicitor.

There are several positive reasons that could bring a person or family into family law. A couple may be adopting a baby or child, or a single parent may finally be receiving the child support that they deserve. A family solicitor could be helping a couple complete their family, or drawing up the papers that helps a single parent feed and cloth their children.

One the other end of the spectrum, many people end up in the family law system for negative reasons. They could be getting a divorce, fighting someone over child custody, they could be in the process of getting sued for child support, or being taken to court for alimony. There are sad cases of family members being accused of abuse or paternity cases where one is fighting to prove or disprove that they are the paternal father. In these types of cases there are no exclusions due to age, gender race or religion; all are expected to attend court. What the court decides determines the future of the family that appears before it, and sometimes the subject of the case can be a delicate matter.

Those who have been married, divorced, living as domestic partners, or even those involved in a civil union may appear in family law and court if there is not a ‘happily ever after’ solution. The system will decide who gets what property, who gets which visitation periods of the children, who keeps the family home, who owes for the debt the couple accrued while together, and more. It is often very difficult, upsetting and complicated to work out all the details of who gets what. However the process is there to settle disputes and allow people and families to rebuild their lives.

So with all of this to worry about you should seek the advice and services of a family law solicitor. Professional legal advice will make certain that you interests are suitably protected.

Relationship agreements (sometimes called nuptial agreements) can give you peace of mind. So if you plan to get married, start cohabiting or are about to enter into a civil partnership then some form of formal relationship agreement can protect you both. A family solicitor will be able to offer you advice in this respect.
